Hello, Lowell Cardinals! I'm Dr. S and this is my second year here at Lowell High School. I am teaching Geometry and Algebra 1 this year, and you can find me either in room 274 or in the Math Office (Room 344).
When I am not working with students, I like to spend time with my family going to jazz concerts, watching movies, working in my garden, or walking our dog Topper. I am an avid reader and writer, and I often record commentaries for KQED-FM about cooking, teaching, knitting Platonic solids, living in San Francisco, or doing math.
I did my undergraduate work at Princeton and my Master's and Ph.D. at Stanford. I spent many years as an entrepreneur and executive in Silicon Valley, but I left the high-tech world to become a math teacher. I had seen too many good, smart people who were missing out on wonderful career opportunities because they had given up on math too soon or because they never mastered the arts of communicating and collaborating effectively.
I believe that math should make sense, and my teaching reflects my belief that all students can be successful at math.
This site contains a listing of the Home Enjoyment assignments for my courses, as well as links to important files, programs, and documents. A gallery of important class notes is also here. Other stuff is on School Loop
Parents and students are welcome to contact me via LoopMail on School Loop. I do my best to respond to all e-mails within 24 hours. I am looking forward to a terrific year!
